JOB TITLE: SENIOR AEROSPACE ENGINEER

LOCATION: JACKSONVILLE, FL

POSITION SUMMARY: Design and evaluate repairs for metallic and composite structures on heavy jet transport aircraft. Coordinate with shop, QC, STC-holders, and the OEM for Approved Modification and repair installations outside the scope of the manufacturer’s Maintenance Manual (M/M) or Structural Repair Manual (SRM). Assist shop and QC in their efforts to ensure preventive modifications or structural repairs comply with updated Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Airworthiness Directives (AD), advisory Circulars (AC), service bulletins (SB), Engineering drawings and any other Approved data required to perform given tasks.

 FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Perform structural analysis of primary structure and systems. Involved in designing, fabricating, modifying or testing aircraft; formulating the conceptual design of aircraft systems to meet customer requirements; planning activities concerned with investigating and resolving customer’s reports of technical problems with aircraft.

  • Develop, integrate and document structural requirements to establish the system design.

  • Verify structural integrity by using analytical methods finite element model simulations and other analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance.

  • Perform stress analysis using hand calculations and /or advanced methods.

  • Analyze project requests, proposals or engineering data to determine feasibility, productivity, cost or production time; evaluate product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements and quality standards; maintain records of performance reports for future reference.

  • Develop design criteria for aircraft systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards and completion dates, writing technical reports or other documentation from customers.

  • Review performance reports and documentation from customers and field engineers and inspecting malfunctioning or damaged products to determine the problem.

  • Design and evaluate repairs for metallic and composite structures on heavy jet transport aircraft.

  • Handle Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment - Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.

  • Coordinate with shop, QC, customers, STC-holders, and OEM for Approved Modification and repair installations outside the scope of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) or the Structural Repair Manual (SRM).

  • Serve as a liaison directly between shop, QC, the customer, STC-holders, and the OEM to support the maintenance crews in accomplishing given tasks.

  • Serve as point of contact with Boeing through My Boeing Fleet online for Engineering Support Requests.

  • Work with shop and QC to assure preventive modifications or structural repairs comply with updated Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Airworthiness Directives (AD), advisory Circulars (AC), service bulletins (SB), Engineering drawings and any other Approved data required to perform given tasks.

  • Accomplish repair assessment of new and existing major repairs to comply with aging aircraft requirements upon customer request.

  • Lead smaller teams performing similar work.

  • Attend MRB and customer review meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Speak in fluent English while spending significant time interfacing with the Director of Production Support, the Director of Maintenance, other directors and managers, various other supervisors; other employees; customer representatives; and outside vendors.

 REPORTS TO: VP of MR Aerospace Engineering.

 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an accredited engineering program.

 EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) Years With Master’s Degree (OR) TWELVE (12) Years With Bachelor’s Degree

 Basic PC Literacy Skill: Microsoft Word and Excel for technical documentation.

 SPECIAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Aircraft Design & Development experience -8 Years

  • Aircraft Stress Analysis and Substantiation-8 years

  • Finite Element Analysis-1 Year.

  • Experience with Boeing/Douglas Airframes: 10 Years.

  • Experience with Airbus Airframes: 4 Years.

  • Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Support (MRO) and Liaison: 10 Years

  • Technical Communication with airlines, manufacturers, vendors, STC owners: 10 years.
